Be tax-smart with your Thrift Savings Plan.

If you have assets in a Thrift Savings Plan (TSP), it’s important to know that in the event of your death, distribution of your assets is governed by the beneficiary designation form you completed.

That’s why it’s so important to make sure you completed the form and that you update it periodically to reflect changes in your beneficiary designations. When you do, we hope you will consider including the VFW along with family members and other loved ones as a beneficiary of your thrift savings. Unlike gifts to loved ones, which are taxed, gifts from your TSP to the VFW are tax-smart because 100% of your donation will go to help America’s veterans.

On the beneficiary designation form, under the Primary Beneficiary Examples, follow the example for Designating a Legal Entity/Corporation:
Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States, Tax ID 44-0474290, with its principal office at 406 West 34th Street, Kansas City, MO 64111.

Beneficiary designation forms can be found online or you can request a sample from us by contacting our Planned Giving Office at plannedgiving@vfw.org or (816) 968-1119.
