More than 25,000 signatures reminded our heroes they are not forgotten.

This Veterans Day, VFW presented the Welcome Home Register at military bases across the nation. With more than 25,000 signatures, the outpouring of support was immeasurable.

VFW National Pre-Discharge Claims Representative James F. Graw delivered the tribute at Fort Stewart in Georgia.

“When I walked up, it was like I had all 25,000 Americans behind me,” said Graw. “It was so moving to see the veterans swell with pride as I showed them the names.”

With more than 100,000 new veterans returning from Iraq this fall, the sentiment couldn’t have come at a better time.

Daniel R. Schmidt and Russ McKamey, also VFW National Pre-Discharge Claims Representatives, delivered the register to Camp Pendleton in California.

“It’s amazing how much of a difference a little show of support can make,” said McKamey. “These men and women work so hard and sacrifice so much. All they want is to know that someone notices.”

“It was a small, yet meaningful way to tell our newest veterans that we appreciate their service,” said VFW Adjutant General Allen "Gunner" Kent. “It’s important they know we’re here for them … and we always will be.”
