Attention Military Retirees!

It’s time to utilize the help of organizations out there that want to recognize your service and help you in every way.

That’s why one VFW Post is doing its part to make help readily available to its local military retirees.

“It honors the VFW to serve those who have served their country,” said Post 12057 Quartermaster Francisco Rodriguez on planning this year’s free orientation seminar for retirees.

With the help of a VFW Military Assistance Program grant, Retiree Appreciation Day was held during the summer at Fort Buchanan in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The event was open to retirees, their families and the entire Fort Buchanan community. Over 1,500 people attended.

The goal was to familiarize the retirees with VFW, the Department of Veterans Affairs, the National Cemetery and other veterans’ organizations. A total of 80 volunteers turned out to help make the day a success.

“We wanted these retirees and their families to get oriented to all of the help and support available to them,” said Rodriguez. “To help them, we have to keep them informed.”

Rodriguez and other VFW members set up a tent and served refreshments and pastries. The tent doubled as an information booth, allowing guests to ask questions about VFW.

“It was a very fulfilling experience. I want to personally thank all those involved for their quick response and generosity in honoring our nation’s retirees,” Rodriguez concluded.
